King Charles, fix a problem in the royal family before it's too late.

Celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Allies' win over Nazi Germany was a busy week for King Charles III. He was also getting ready to fly to Canada later this month to open that country's parliament.  But his busy public routine was once again overshadowed by a very public outburst from his estranged younger son, Prince Harry.

It's something the 76-year-old king is used to seeing.  After two years, his rule is shaping up to be both eventful and strangely stable in its main storyline: that of a stressed-out dad dealing with a squabbling family.

In a recent interview with the BBC, Harry made an emotional plea to be reconciled with his family. He did this while thinking about how long his cancer-stricken father had left to live. This caused more rifts within the royal family, which is still trying to find its footing in the Carolean age.

Ed Owens, a historian who writes about the British monarchy, said, "There is an overhang in the way we see Charles' reign."  "It's not really going anywhere yet, and we don't know how long it will last."

The king has done a lot, for sure.  He went to France, Australia, Poland, and Italy even though he was getting weekly treatments for cancer that was found last year.  He found time to put together a playlist for Apple Music with songs by Kylie Minogue and Bob Marley, host state dinners, and pose for pictures.

But Harry's words, which came after he lost a court case in Britain over his security plans, brought up the rift that started when he and his wife, Meghan, quit being royal and moved to California in 2020.
